Jagran correspondent, Moradabad. In three districts of Moradabad zone, electricity thieves are defrauding the government of crores of rupees every month. Information about electricity theft came to light due to the difference in the electricity received from the grid by Moradabad zone and the units of electricity sold to consumers. Under which, electricity worth Rs 227.20 crore was stolen in three districts of Moradabad zone in seven months.
Moradabad zone of electricity department includes three districts: Moradabad, Sambhal and Rampur. According to the department, from June to December last year, 331.756 crore units of electricity was received in Moradabad zone, while 286.316 crore units of electricity was sold. There is a difference of 45.44 crore units between the electricity received and the electricity sold. That means, in seven months, 45.44 units of electricity has been recorded in Linelas.
At Rs 5 per unit, the price of 45.44 crore units is Rs 227.20 crore. Under which electricity worth Rs 227.20 crore has been stolen in the three districts of Moradabad zone in seven months. On the other hand, the Electricity Department is continuously trying to stop electricity theft by running campaigns, but even then electricity theft is not being controlled.
Decrease in electricity theft compared to last year
In seven months, electricity worth more than Rs 227.20 crore has been stolen in Moradabad zone. At the same time, according to the data of the department, there has been a decrease in lineless in the last year 2025 as compared to the previous year 2024.
According to the data of the department, in the year 2024, 3494.24 crore units of electricity was received in the three districts of Moradabad, while 2850.30 crore units of electricity was sold. Under which 643.94 crore units of electricity were registered in Linelas. Which is 18.43 percent. Whereas this year only 13.70 percent electricity has been recorded in Linelas.
Highest electricity theft in Rampur
There are three districts in Moradabad zone of Electricity Department. Which includes Moradabad, Rampur and Sambhal. Electricity worth 45.44 crore units has been stolen in the three districts within seven months. In which maximum electricity theft has been recorded in Rampur district.
Linelas includes both technical damage and electricity theft. There has been a decrease in 2025 linelas as compared to the year 2024. Continuous efforts are being made to stop Linelas. A continuous campaign is also going on against those who steal electricity.
