Jagran correspondent, Greater Noida. In view of the dense fog as winter progresses, the speed of vehicles on Yamuna Expressway has been restricted. The speed of light vehicles was reduced from 100 to 75 km per hour. To reduce road accidents in fog on the 165 km long Yamuna Expressway, Yamuna Authority has issued instructions to apply brakes on speed. The rule has come into effect from 12 midnight on 15th December. The traffic police will take action against those who violate the prescribed speed limit through online driving.

Yamuna Expressway from Greater Noida to Agra passes through Aligarh, Hathras, Mathura and Agra districts besides Gautam Buddha Nagar. Due to being on the banks of Yamuna, dense fog has started falling. The administration has decided to impose brakes on speeding to reduce road accidents during poor visibility. Yamuna Authority General Manager Project Rajendra Bhati said that from 12 midnight on December 15, the speed limit for light vehicles on Yamuna Expressway has been reduced from 100 kilometers per hour to 75 kilometers per hour.

The speed limit for heavy vehicles is set at 60 kilometers per hour. The speed limit restriction will start from December 15 and will remain in effect till February 15. During this time, the traffic police will take action against those violating the prescribed speed limit and will send online alerts directly to their addresses. Awareness is being given to drive with special caution in the winter season. In order to drive vehicles with special caution in the winter season, necessary guidelines for safe travel are being given through the public address system at all three toll plazas, Jewar, Mathura and Agra.

Heavy vehicle drivers are being provided free tea to break their idleness at the toll plaza. To make vehicles visible from a distance during fog and mist, pamphlets are being distributed along with installing reflective tape on commercial vehicles.

Keeping in mind the dense fog in the coming time, along with reducing the speed limit, information about the upcoming weather and accidents on the expressway will be provided through digital signage displays at eight places. Private security personnel are deployed to protect the expressway, besides preventing illegal parking of vehicles, fog lamps are being installed at all interchanges and cuts. To provide immediate medical care to the passengers in case of an accident, the number of ambulances is being increased from six to eight. - JK Sharma Assistant General Manager Yamuna Expressway
