State Bureau, Ranchi. State Health Minister Irfan Ansari has assured the Central Government that the Jharkhand government is committed to eradicating filariasis by the year 2027.

He gave this assurance in the context of the Mass Drug Administration (MDA) campaign launched on Tuesday in virtual mode to eradicate filariasis. He also informed about the efforts being made by the state government regarding this campaign.

Earlier, Union Health Minister JP Nadda joined health ministers across the country through video conferencing while launching this campaign and also reviewed it.

The Union Health Minister called upon all the ministers, MPs and MLAs to provide active support in this campaign and spread public awareness for it. In this sequence, the State Health Minister said that the filariasis eradication campaign has been conducted with 100 percent success in nine districts of the state, where extensive awareness campaigns, medicine distribution and mosquito control measures were taken.

On Tuesday, MDA campaign was started in Bokaro, Deoghar, Dhanbad, East Singhbhum, Garhwa, Giridih, Gumla, Koderma, Lohardaga, Pakur, Ramgarh, Ranchi, Sahibganj and Simdega, in which the target has been set to provide anti-filarial medicine to about 1.75 crore target population.

He directed all health officials associated with this campaign to ensure that the medicine is consumed by at least 95 percent of the target population. In areas where drug consumption is low or there is opposition, surveillance should be increased under a special strategy.
