Barcelona (AP) - Star striker Kylian Mbappe scored his 59th goal for Real Madrid on his 27th birthday in 2025, equaling the club record for most goals in a year, which was previously held by Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo made this record in 2013. After scoring the record goal, Mbappe celebrated in the same style as Ronaldo.
It was almost impossible for French striker Mbappe to achieve this feat, because this was Real Madrid's last match of the year. However, Mbappe equalized for Ronaldo by converting a penalty kick four minutes from time as Real Madrid won 2–0 over Sevilla.
Mbappe said, what Cristiano did is incredible. He is my idol. He has been the best player in the history of Real Madrid. This celebration of mine is dedicated to him. I have a very good relationship with him. I wish him and all Real Madrid fans a very Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year. Jude Bellingham scored the first goal for Real Madrid with a header in the 38th minute.
Arsenal will remain in first place for the fifth time
Victor Gyökeres scored a first-half penalty as Arsenal secured a 1–0 win over Everton, ensuring Arsenal would finish top of the Premier League for the fifth time on 25 December. On four previous occasions Arsenal had been top by Christmas and had failed to win the title. Manchester City is in second place after Arsenal. They are just two points behind Arsenal. They beat West Ham 3–0.
PSG in the pre-quarterfinals of the French Cup
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) defeated fifth-tier side Vendée Fontaine 4-0 to reach the last 32 of the French Cup. Goncalo Ramos scored two goals for PSG, while star forwards Ousmane Denvale and Desir Dou scored one goal each. Apart from PSG, Lille, Lorient, Metz, Paris FC and Toulouse also made it to the last 32.
