Deepak Sharma, Moga. Mathematics teacher Gobind Lal, who made a special place in the hearts of the people of India and was affectionately known as 'Gobind Veerji', passed away. 59 year old Gobind Virji was ill for a long time. Despite being just 2 feet 9 inches tall, confined to a wheelchair and being physically challenged by birth, he lived a life that made him immortal.

Gobind Virji's height and physical activities were limited due to a rare medical condition since birth. Despite this he never gave up. For more than 37 years, he conducted mathematics classes at his home and never missed a single day without any reason.

The biggest specialty of Govind Veer ji as a teacher was that he taught mathematics completely free of cost to economically weaker children. He believed that education should not be taken away from any child just because of money. Due to this thinking, he taught hundreds of needy students without any fee and showed them the way to move ahead in life.

His mathematics became famous by the name of Govind Veer Formula.

His unique style of teaching mathematics and his own developed techniques were extremely popular among the students. He used to explain the most difficult mathematical questions with such simple formulas and examples that children started studying mathematics with interest rather than as a burden. The formulas and teaching method created by him became famous among the students by the name of “Govind Veer Formula”.

This was the reason that from morning till late evening there was a crowd of students studying mathematics at his residence. Not only Moga, students from nearby cities and villages also used to come to him to study.

considered studies as his soul

He considered teaching as his life. In an interview given on Teacher's Day in 2015, he had said, "Teaching is the meaning of my life. The people of Moga are pure at heart. No one ever made fun of my height or body. Doctors had said that teaching too much would harm my health, but it was not possible for me to give up teaching. This is my soul."

Despite being disabled since childhood, Govind Veer ji never gave up in front of circumstances. He never let his physical challenge become a hindrance in his goal, but with his confidence and hard work, he not only made his life successful but also wrote a new story of success in the lives of thousands of children.

Made self-reliance your strength

He was not only a skilled teacher but also a lively and inspirational personality. Sometimes his melodious notes on the flute would mesmerize everyone, and sometimes while doing small to big tasks in the market on his small three-wheeler scooter, he would inspire people that self-reliance is the greatest strength of life.

Today, the students taught by him have become professors, engineers, doctors and successful businessmen in the country and abroad. Many former students expressed their condolences on social media and over the phone, saying that “If Govind Veer ji had not been there, we would not have been able to reach where we are today.”

quit teaching a month ago

Before his illness, Gobind Veerji used to teach 60 to 70 students daily. He had left teaching only a month ago. Even though Gobind Veerji was physically small, his thoughts, dedication and contribution not only earned him money but also got him a high position in the world of education.
