Jagran correspondent, Muzaffarpur. The severe cold in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar broke the record of 11 years. Due to the icy westerly wind blowing since morning on Saturday, the maximum temperature reached 13.9 degrees Celsius. Earlier in the year 2014 it had reached its vicinity.

Due to high amount of moisture in the air, westerly wind will blow continuously. Due to this, cold will increase in North Bihar. Cold day conditions will persist due to the effect of jet winds. There will be moderate level fog in the morning.

During this period, the maximum temperature will reach 15 to 16 degrees and the minimum temperature will reach 8 to 10 degrees. Westerly wind will blow at a speed of five km per hour during the forecast period.

Here, there was a dense fog since morning. Due to this, vehicles plying on the roads had to face a lot of problems. Visibility was very low. Due to this the lights of the vehicles kept burning. Cold is affecting children and the elderly the most.

Trains ran late. Due to running late by hours, passengers had to wait for the trains in silence at the station. There was less crowd at the bus stand. Passengers shivered from the cold as the glass panes of many buses were broken.

Minimum temperatures are likely to decline over the forecast period. In such a situation, temperature sensitive crops like tomatoes, peas and potatoes may be adversely affected due to low moisture.
