Jagran correspondent, Muzaffarpur. Muzaffarpur Bypass Project: Concrete initiatives have now started to provide relief from the traffic jam that has been plaguing Muzaffarpur for years. The National Highway Authority (NHAI) has accelerated the process of construction of bypass road in the eastern part of the district at a cost of about Rs 1700 crore. Survey work is going on for this ambitious project, which is likely to be completed this month.

In the survey being conducted by NHAI, a detailed assessment of the number of vehicles passing daily, traffic pressure and land acquisition requirements is being made. Also, the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of this bypass has almost reached the final stage. As soon as the process is completed, the construction work will be started by issuing tender.

Available in Darbhanga NH near Bakhri

This proposed 17 km long bypass will start from Madhaul and meet Darbhanga NH near Bakhri. With its construction, vehicles coming from Hajipur-Patna will be able to go directly towards Darbhanga, due to which there will be no need to enter the city. This will reduce the traffic pressure at Chandni Chowk, Bairia and other major jam-packed areas to a great extent.

The distance will be reduced by 20 kilometers

With the construction of the bypass, vehicles traveling long distances will not be forced to travel within the city. It is estimated that this will reduce the distance by about 20 kilometers, which will save both time and fuel.

Villages will also get the benefit of development

The benefits of this project will not be limited to the city only. Economic activities will increase in many panchayats of Madhaul, Kafen, Dighra and Mushahari blocks located along the bypass. There will also be a possibility of development of new businesses, dhabas, warehouses and logistics facilities.

It is noteworthy that during the Pragati Yatra last year, the Chief Minister had inspected this proposed route, after which it was approved. Now with NHAI starting the construction process, it is clear that the work towards making Muzaffarpur 'jam free' is going to start on the ground.
