One can easily guess what is the condition of government health services in the district by seeing and knowing the arrangements of Sadar Hospital located at the district headquarters. The plight of this model hospital here, built at a cost of Rs 23 crore, is now coming to light. This hospital, which is said to be equipped with modern facilities, is actually struggling due to lack of basic arrangements. In case of power cut, patients are treated here by torch light.
If there was a solar connection, doctors would not have faced any problem in seeing patients. The situation is such that in an emergency, as soon as the power goes out, the doctors and staff have to light mobile torches and candles and carry out treatment with the help of the same. This mismanagement is also dangerous and unsafe for the patients.
On Monday afternoon, there was power cut in the Model Hospital and Dr. Amarnath Yadav was seen treating the patients by lighting a torch, while there was a long queue of patients from the medicine counter to the registration counter and OPD. There was no alternative arrangement for this from the health department.
The medicine counter and registration counter are open in the hospital, but there is no alternative arrangement including generator. This situation continued for about 25 minutes, but no responsible official of the hospital took any meaningful initiative in this direction. It was told that after power cut, the registration counter and medicine counter come to a complete standstill. The treatment is somehow done in the light of mobile phone and torch.
Lack of facilities for patients, expensive furniture adds to the beauty
Even though the model hospital does not have adequate lighting arrangements for the treatment of patients, the expensive chairs, ACs installed in the rooms and other resources are enhancing the beauty of the entire building. This situation not only reflects the negligence of the hospital administration, but also shows the bigger picture of misuse of government funds. When questions were raised on this negligence, the responsible officials of Sadar Hospital were seen ignoring it.
