State Bureau, Ranchi. In a video conferencing with Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on the PM Rahat (Prime Minister-Road Accident Victims Hospitalization and Acquired Treatment) scheme for providing assured treatment to victims of road accidents, Health Minister from Jharkhand Dr. Irfan Ansari welcomed the scheme and said that it will benefit lakhs of people of Jharkhand.
Under the scheme, people who reach the hospital within an hour of the accident will get free treatment up to Rs 1.5 lakh. The scheme was notified on 4 May 2025 and formally launched on 13 February 2026. This scheme is being operated on Ayushman Bharat portal TMS 2.0 platform.
During video conferencing, it was told that in eligible cases this scheme has been given priority over all other schemes. The process of treatment will start after verification by the police station related to the accident.
However, in case of hospitalization after 24 hours of the accident, the treatment expenses will not be covered under the plan. Nitin Gadkari held a detailed review meeting with the Health Ministers and Health Secretaries of all the states.
The Health Minister of Jharkhand expressed his views and appreciated the scheme. Said that lakhs of families will get direct benefits from this scheme. Due to the month of Ramzan, Ansari politely requested to present his views first, to which the Union Minister agreed.
Ansari further suggested that a detailed meeting be organized in Delhi with the health ministers of all the states on this important subject. Gadkari also assured him for this. Ansari also raised the issue of a very important pending road project in Jamtara district.
