Jagran correspondent, New Delhi. Changes have been made in the plan to implement the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), which was pending for almost a year. Earlier, the entire integrated NDMC area was to be tendered, but this change was made when the plan was not successful after repeated tenders.
Now NDMC will tender it by dividing it into three parts. In this, one out of 99 parking lots in and around Connaught Place will be tendered while the remaining 38 parking lots will be tendered considering them as duty path and duty path north. Sarojini Nagar, Bhikajikam Place and surrounding areas are included under Duty Path North.
NDMC Vice President Kuljeet Chahal said that we have 155 parking sites. We will divide them into three zones and now tender them and hand over their operation and maintenance to a private company. So that NDMC can earn additional revenue.
It is noteworthy that in August 2024, the contract of NDMC parking, which was operated by a private company on monthly license fee basis, had ended. After this, NDMC had floated tenders on the basis of monthly license fee of Rs 7 crore but they were not successful.
Parking needs to be modernized
At present, NDMC parking is being operated in the traditional manner. Whereas in the new tender this parking has to be modernized. This includes providing the facility to book parking slots from home, installing Fastag based payment system in parking and finding out the status of vacant parking spaces online.
NDMC has the capacity to park 15158 vehicles at a time in 155 parking lots, which has the facility to park 10322 four wheelers, 4713 two wheelers and 123 buses.
