Jagran correspondent, Meerut. In view of increasing cyber crimes, the police has increased the scope of action and vigilance. Meerut Range has taken major action in this. 290 such accounts of cyber criminals and the amount of Rs 9 crore present in them were seized. Action is being taken to return this amount to the victims as per rules.
The suspected number 2001 and 259 IMEI used in the fraud was blocked. The DIG ordered all the district police chiefs of the range to take immediate effective action on the information about cyber crime and try to reach the network. DIG Kalanidhi Naithani said that on the basis of complaints lodged on the NCRP portal in cases of cyber fraud from March 1, 25 to December 7, 2015, numbers 785, Bulandshahr 777, Baghpat 153, Hapur 286 were closed in Meerut. Apart from this, suspicious IMEIs were blocked in Meerut 55, Bulandshahr 83, Baghpat 42 and Hapur 79. Among the suspicious mobile numbers displayed on the Pratibimba portal, action was taken against 415 in Meerut, 130 in Bulandshahr, 76 in Baghpat and 140 in Hapur.
1286 accounts used in fraud were also seized. Cyber thugs used these accounts to make illegally earned money look legitimate. Of these, there are 733 accounts in Meerut, 56 in Bulandshahr, 430 in Baghpat and 67 in Hapur. In Meerut, Rs 5 crore, Bulandshahr Rs 3 crore, Baghpat Rs 85 lakh and Hapur Rs 1.6 crore were recovered. 90 cases involving amount of Rs 5 lakh were registered. Apart from this, 4086 cases were resolved in Meerut, 2567 in Bulandshahr, 577 in Baghpat and 575 in Hapur.
Apart from this, 1814 cyber awareness programs were conducted. The DIG got the Mule bank accounts frozen immediately as soon as they were identified. Officers and employees appointed in cyber cell, police station should be continuously updated with the information about cyber. Strict action should be taken against the gangs, call centres, mobile numbers and people associated with them that have come to light. The seized amount should be returned to the victims after taking court order.
Efforts should be made to access the links of cyber criminals. On the first Wednesday of every month, the cyber team visits schools, bus stands and villages to make people aware. Make them aware of the methods of fraud. By giving continuous information about the techniques and methods being adopted by cyber thugs, ways of protection should be shown.
