Digital Desk, New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on Assam tour on 20 and 21 December. During this, he will inaugurate Bamboo Orchids Terminal 2 at Guwahati Airport on 20th December. This new terminal, which is designed to handle 1.31 crore passengers annually.
In fact, Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate the new Integrated Terminal Building (Terminal-2) at Guwahati's popular Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBI) on December 20. The terminal is based on the "Bamboo Orchids" theme inspired by the cultural heritage of Assam, featuring bamboo architecture, motifs of kopou orchids (foxtail orchids) and gamosa-inspired designs.
The new terminal at Guwahati Airport has been built keeping in mind sustainable design, offering a beautiful blend of local culture with modern amenities.
Annual capacity of 13.1 million passengers
Bamboo Orchids Terminal 2 at Guwahati Airport is inspired by the Kopau flower (foxtail orchid) and local bamboo. Its estimated cost is said to be around Rs 4,000 crore. This terminal will have the capacity to handle 13.1 million passengers annually by 2032.
The biggest benefit of the construction of this terminal will be that it will establish Guwahati as a world-class gateway to North-East India and South-East Asia. Along with this, it will give a tremendous boost to connectivity, tourism, trade and economic development in the region.
