Notorious drug smuggler caught red handed in Bhubaneswar
Jagran correspondent, Bhubaneswar. The police has achieved great success against drug smuggling in the capital. The Special Crime Unit of the Commissionerate Police, taking action on Saturday, arrested three notorious drug smugglers. 370 grams of brown sugar has been recovered from the accused, whose value in the international market is estimated to be around Rs 37 lakh.
The arrested accused have been identified as Sameer Khan, Sheikh Irshad Mohammad and Munaf Khan. All three are said to be residents of Jaleshwar area and were involved in drug smuggling in Bhubaneswar for a long time.
Solid information was received about the accused
Police Commissioner S. Dev Dutt Singh said that the Special Crime Unit had received concrete information about the accused, on the basis of which a trap was laid and they were caught red handed. He said that the accused were already under police surveillance and they were arrested after taking action at the right moment.
According to the police, investigation has been started after taking possession of the seized brown sugar. Now efforts are being made to find out from where the drugs were being supplied and who are the other people associated with this gang.
Officials say that many important information is expected to be found during the interrogation. Police are continuously running a campaign to curb the increasing drug smuggling in the capital and more arrests may be made in the coming days.
