Communication Assistant, Katihar/Azamnagar. Now teachers will also have to take the responsibility of prevention of stray dogs in government schools of Katihar district. One nodal teacher will be nominated in each primary school, who will keep an eye on the entry of stray dogs in the school premises and ensure arrangements to expel them. This initiative has been taken with the aim of protecting school children and keeping the mid-day meal safe.
District MDM officer Nishit Singh has issued a letter in this regard and directed all the head teachers to immediately nominate a teacher as the nodal officer. The instructions issued state that in the light of the order of the Honorable Court and the instructions of the Additional Chief Secretary, human operation based work system is to be strictly implemented for prevention of entry of stray dogs in the educational institutions of the state, compliance with security measures and safe management of food waste generated especially from mid-day meal.
Under the instructions, every school will have to provide the block, panchayat, school name, U-DICE code, nodal teacher name and mobile number in the prescribed form. The nominated teachers will regularly monitor the cleanliness of the school premises, proper disposal of food waste and security arrangements. Besides, its report will also be submitted to the concerned authorities from time to time.
Departmental officials believe that this system will strengthen cleanliness and safety in schools and children will be protected from incidents like dog bites. However, this decision has added a new dimension to the responsibilities of teachers. Now they will have to pay extra attention to academic and administrative work as well as campus management and security arrangements.
Here, the Municipal Corporation Administration has set up feeding grounds for dogs in many wards of the city, while construction work is going on at some places. A significant amount of money is said to be spent on the construction of these sites. However, complaints of non-availability of food regularly have also come to light at many places.
