Village development officers, accountants, employment servants and village heads working on the borders of Kheri, Bahraich, Shravasti, Balrampur, Siddharthnagar, Maharajganj districts will now, in addition to their other government duties, have to find out whether illegally brought international SIMs are being used in their area.

Intelligence agencies have found strong evidence that telecommunication networks are being run through international SIMs on the borders of these districts. Now it will be the responsibility of the revenue officials to stop them and provide such information to the government immediately.

In an important letter from the Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications of India, it has been said that there is a need to launch a comprehensive campaign to detect and stop the misuse of international SIM cards in the country and illegal telecommunication networks in border areas. In this regard, DoT/regional units of licensed service areas have been directed to conduct separate surveys/campaigns of international SIM card vendors and sales centers located near international borders, so that misuse of international SIM cards can be identified and prevented. This campaign should be conducted in coordination with the Intelligence Bureau and the State Police.

Taking a very strict and priority approach from the telecom service providers, the revenue personnel should sensitize the vendors/sales centers/franchises in their area regarding the sale of foreign SIM cards and their possible misuse. In an order issued by Kheri district's Labor Commissioner Amit Singh Parihar, the Program Officer/Block Development Officer of Development Block Palia, Nighasan Ramiyabehad, Dhaurahara and Isanagar has been asked to ensure strict compliance of all instructions to his revenue personnel on the approximately 125 km long Nepal border of Kheri district.
