Jagran correspondent, Bhubaneswar. A case of brutal assault on a Class 8 student has come to light in a private hostel located at Barapurikia in Nayagarh district. There was a stir as soon as the video of this inhuman act committed by senior students went viral on IU media.
Attack with plastic pipe and cricket bat
According to the information, three Class 10 students beat a minor student with a plastic pipe and cricket bat. The victim kept pleading for mercy again and again, but the attackers did not listen. Due to the beating he was left bleeding and his hand was also broken. This hostel with about 140 students is now raising serious questions on security and surveillance.
When the hostel owner was asked about the incident, he clearly refused to provide any information. However, the viral video exposed his words, after which the police took immediate action.
"Three students beat up the Class 8 boy. They claimed that the younger student had threatened them," said Daspalla police station in-charge Binay Ranjan Parida.
Three students, owner and teacher detained
After the video surfaced, the police have taken into custody the three accused students along with hostel owner and teacher Rashmiranjan Patnaik for questioning. The investigation into the matter is ongoing and responsibility for negligence is being fixed.
Anger among parents, demand for strict action
Angered by the incident, parents are stressing on the need for strict monitoring and anti-ragging measures in private hostels. People demand that strict action be taken against the culprits so that such painful incidents are not repeated.
