Jagran correspondent, Unnao. On the occasion of Paush Purnima, devotees took a dip of faith in the Ganga in the harsh winter on Saturday. Devotees started arriving from early morning to take bath in the Ganga. The ghats and banks of Ganga kept resonating with the slogans of Har Har Ganga.

After taking bath in Ganga, the devotees offered milk, ghee, honey, Akshat, sandalwood, roli, flowers, fragrance, incense, lamp and naivedya and worshiped Mother Ganga and sought happiness and prosperity from her. On the occasion of Purnima, people listened to the story of Lord Satyanarayan on the ghats and banks of Ganga. After the story, Prasad was distributed.

People who came to bathe in the Ganga earned virtue by donating food, clothes etc. to the needy. Shops selling puja materials etc. were decorated on the roads leading to the banks of Ganga.

Pandit Makardhwaj told that taking bath in Ganga on Paush Purnima has special significance. People who take bath in Ganga on this day remain blessed with happiness and prosperity in their families. Devotees who reached Anand Ghat, Mishra Colony Ghat, Shivbaba Ghat, Ganga Vishun Ghat, the ghat under the bridge and Chandanghat of Jajmau took bath in the Ganga.

Crowd at railway station

On Paush Purnima, there was a crowd at Gangaghat railway station with people coming from far away places to take a bath in the Ganga. Devotees coming by train got down at the railway station. From where he went to take bath at the ghats of Ganga.

After bathing in Ganga, returned and reached the station. Where MEMU and passengers etc. returned to their homes by trains. RPF ASI Guptar Singh said that vigilance was maintained at the railway station regarding the bathing festival of Paush Purnima.
