State Bureau, Kolkata. Samajwadi Party (SP) chief and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav met Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday and praised her for showing courage in countering the BJP's attacks.

Former Chief Minister Akhilesh along with his wife and Lok Sabha MP Dimple Yadav met Ms Banerjee at the state secretariat here. He told reporters after the meeting that only Didi (Mamata Banerjee) can counter the attacks of BJP in this country.
Pointing to the deletion of names of about 2.89 crore voters from the voter list during SIR in Uttar Pradesh, he said that efforts are being made to implement NRC and harass people under the guise of Special Intensive Revision (FIR) of voter lists.

His meeting with Mamata lasted for about 40 minutes. This is a courtesy call. Taking aim at the BJP here on Monday, Akhilesh had said that Didi (Mamata Banerjee) has defeated the ED, we have full confidence that now she will once again defeat the BJP.
The former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh's comment was in the context of Banerjee creating ruckus during the recent raid by the investigating agency at the 'I-PAC' office and the residence of its director Prateek Jain.
