Jagran correspondent, Bhubaneswar. Odisha Police has launched a strict campaign against illegal sand, moram and gitti (Mankada stone) mafia and illegal cow smuggling in the state. There has been a stir among the mafia due to the swift action of the police under the ongoing 'Operation Dharpakad' for the last few days.
During the campaign, sand carrying tractors, trucks, tippers and trucks were seized by raids in various districts of the state. So far, 134 cases have been registered for illegal transportation of minor minerals and 163 vehicles have been seized. In the action, 14 accused have been arrested, while notices have been issued to more than 92 people.
Talking about district-wise action, 39 cases have been registered in Mayurbhanj and 45 vehicles, 32 cases and 67 vehicles have been seized in Baleshwar, 18 cases and 18 vehicles have been seized in Bhadrak and 33 vehicles have been seized in Ganjam.
At the same time, the police has also adopted a strict stance against illegal cow smuggling. In this matter, 23 cases have been registered and 31 smugglers have been arrested. On the instructions of Director General of Police Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, strict action is being taken against anti-social elements and people involved in organized crime.
Under the supervision of Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Sanjay Kumar, Superintendents of Police of all the districts of the state have played an active role in this special campaign. Police say that action against illegal mining and cow smuggling will continue in future also.
