Umakant Shukla, an elderly father in Ghaziabad, is fighting for justice in the suicide case of his son Kusumkant Shukla.

Jagran correspondent, Ghaziabad. Grief of son's death, daughter-in-law accused of abetting suicide and now waiting for investigation. The pain of elderly Umakant Shukla, resident of Kasholar village of Kanpur, is limited to the files between the police and the Government Railway Police (GRP). After son Kusumkant Shukla committed suicide on the railway track in Kavinagar police station area on November 6, he had filed a case in the GRP police station accusing his daughter-in-law and other in-laws of abetting him to commit suicide.

After the case was registered, the GRP transferred the investigation to the police twice, but both times the police refused to investigate citing that the case was registered with the GRP. Elderly Umakant Shukla says that his son Kusumkant Shukla used to work as an engineer in a multinational company in Gurugram.

He married his son to a girl from Govindapuram in 2011. His son was living in a rented house near his in-laws' house in Govindapuram. He alleges that his son was being harassed. Troubled by this, his son committed suicide. Two months have passed since the case was registered, but the investigation has not even started.

This is because the GRP told him that since his son was harassed in Govindpuram, the investigation should be done by Kavinagar police station. When the matter came to the police, they refused to investigate saying that the case was registered in GRP and returned the file. In December, GRP again asked the police to investigate, but the police again refused to investigate on 29 December.

Umakant got tired of running around officials

Victim Umakant Shukla says that he is tired of meeting and talking to the police and GRP officials. He has met Ghaziabad's Additional Commissioner of Police Keshav Chaudhary thrice, ACP Kavinagar once, Kavinagar police station in-charge and GRP police station in-charge. He went to meet CO GRP, but could not meet him. He says that he has spoken to SP GRP Ashutosh Shukla on phone seven-eight times. Being upset, he also sent a letter to Police Commissioner J Ravinder Gaur on January 1.

Correspondence will be done from the headquarters - DCP City

DCP City Dhawal Jaiswal says that the case is not registered in our police station, hence investigation has not started. This file is related to the case registered by GRP (Government Railway Police), and GRP has the authority to investigate it. Correspondence regarding this matter will be done at the headquarters level, so that the confusion regarding jurisdiction can be removed.
