Reuters, Islamabad. These days, Pakistan, which was defeated by India in Operation Sindoor in May last year, is boasting about various weapons including its fighter aircraft JF-17. It is claiming that many countries are showing interest in them and negotiations regarding the sale are in the final stages. But the reality is that till now it has not received any order and despite all the claims, there is no demand for JF-17 fighter planes jointly developed by China and Pakistan.

Islamabad held talks with 13 countries

Three sources with knowledge of the defense sale said Islamabad has held talks with 13 countries. Of these, talks are in the final stages with six to eight countries, which include JF-17, surveillance Shahpar drones and weapon systems.

However, Pakistani Army and Defense Ministry have not given any details in this regard. But the Defense Production Minister has claimed that many countries have shown interest in fighter planes and other military equipment. While some analysts believe that the Ukraine war and the conflict in West Asia have hampered the supply of arms, many countries are looking for new options.

In such a situation, Pakistan is exaggerating its weapons. While some say that it is not necessary that the talks reach any agreement. Pakistan's Defense Production Minister Raza Hayat Harraj himself has expressed such apprehension. He said, 'Negotiations are going on, but may fail due to international pressure.'

While according to Simon Wagemann, a senior researcher at the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, it is not clear how much of the negotiations on the JF-17 could result in an agreement. Beijing may lodge objections on some.

Claim regarding these countries

Sources have claimed that countries like Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Morocco, Ethiopia, Libya and Nigeria are involved in the talks. Bangladesh and Iraq have also discussed about JF-17 fighter planes. However, more details in this regard have not been made public. The countries about which claims are being made are all Muslim majority.
