PM Modi said, 'The 150-year journey of Vande Mataram has passed through many stages, but when Vande Mataram completed 50 years, the country was forced to live in slavery. When Vande Mataram completed 100 years, the country was in the shackles of Emergency, and when it should have been a wonderful celebration of Vande Mataram, the Constitution of India was strangled. When Vande Mataram completed 100 years, people who lived and died for patriotism were put behind bars. On the completion of 100 years of the song Vande Mataram which gave the energy of independence to the country, a dark period of our history has unfortunately come to light.

PM said- We all are witnesses of this historic occasion

During the discussion on Vande Mataram, PM Modi said, 'It is a great privilege for all of us in this House to remember the virtue of Vande Mataram, the mantra, the slogan which gave energy and inspiration to the country's freedom movement, which showed the path of sacrifice and penance. It is a matter of pride for us that 150 years of Vande Mataram are being completed and we all are witnessing this historic occasion.

Giriraj Singh said- Some people do not believe in Vande Mataram

BJP MP Giriraj Singh said, 'Some people do not believe in Vande Mataram, but believe in Babri Masjid. This was not done by Humayun Kabir, but by Mamata Banerjee. This has been done as part of a well thought out strategy and now Mamata Banerjee will have to face the consequences.

Shahzad Poonawala said – Nehru was against Vande Mataram

BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala said about the discussion on Vande Mataram in Parliament, 'The entire country will see a historic moment in both the Houses. It is not just a song, but a cry that united crores of Indians in their fight against the British Raj, slavery, invaders. Nehru ji was against this song. Giving priority to appeasement and vote bank, he started a campaign against it and said it has communal colour.
