Jagran correspondent, Chandigarh. The Education Department is busy preparing to give a new direction to the examination system in schools. The department plans to bring changes in the existing rote-based education system and bring students at the center of the learning process.

This proposed reform is being carried forward in line with the National Education Policy, in which students' understanding, analytical ability and life skills have been given priority.

What is there in the new education system?

According to officials of the Education Department, major changes can be seen in the question papers in the new system. Now such questions will be increased in the examinations, which will inspire students to think deeply on a subject and write their thoughts.

This is expected to develop problem solving ability in students. At the same time, the number of questions written only by memorization or rote writing will be reduced, so that actual learning can be tested in the examination.

Reforms will be implemented in a phased manner

Sources say that this reform will be implemented in a phased manner. It is likely to start with board exams for classes 5th, 8th, 10th and 12th. There will also be changes in the assessment process, which will include projects, assignments, oral assessment and classroom activities. This will allow students to focus on learning throughout the year and not just during exam days.

Along with this, promotion of digital evaluation system is also being considered. Online testing will result in faster results and reduce human errors in evaluation. This will make the examination process more transparent and reliable.

Question papers will be prepared as per the reforms

The role of teachers will also be important in this new system. The department will soon organize special training sessions for teachers, so that they can be given complete information about the new examination pattern and so that they can guide the students in a better way. Apart from this, the experts who set the question papers are also being prepared according to this reform.

Educational experts believe that Punjab needed such changes for a long time. In the present examination system, students often work hard only for good marks and top rank, while the main objective of learning gets left behind. The new system will also help in reducing unnecessary examination pressure on students.

The state will move ahead in education quality

The department claims that if these changes are implemented successfully, Punjab can be included among the leading states of the country in terms of education quality. This reform will bring a new hope for the students and parents, in which the examination will not be just a game of marks but a proof of real knowledge and skills.
