Paving the way for new domestic and international flights from Chandigarh Airport - Airlines incentive scheme implemented to increase connectivity - Airlines companies invited by airport authorities
Jagran correspondent, Chandigarh. Important initiatives have been taken towards expanding air connectivity from Chandigarh International Airport to major cities of the country and abroad. For a long time, there was a demand being raised by the industry organizations, trade chambers and local residents of the area that more domestic and international flights should be started from Chandigarh Airport, so that the passengers can get direct connectivity to major hubs. Keeping this in mind, the airport administration has now accelerated the process of increasing connectivity.
Domestically, there is demand for direct flights to major cities like Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi in South India, Amritsar, Kullu, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Jaisalmer, Prayagraj, Ayodhya and Jammu in North India, Nagpur, Vadodara, Surat, Nanded and Nashik in Western India, Guwahati and Bagdogra in the Northeast and Raipur, Bhubaneswar and Ranchi in Eastern India. The commencement of these routes will not only increase the convenience of passengers, but will also strengthen business and social contacts between different areas.
These routes are needed at international level
Along with this, the need for flights to other global centers including Singapore, Bangkok, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Nepal, London, Canada has also been expressed at the international level. Direct or better connectivity to these destinations is expected to increase tourism, education, business and investment opportunities.
With a view to promote air connectivity and develop new and hitherto unserved domestic and international routes, Chandigarh International Airport Limited has implemented Airlines Incentive Scheme at Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport, Chandigarh. Under this scheme, financial assistance will be provided to airlines to start new flights or increase capacity on unserved routes, thereby making route development viable.
air connectivity will be stronger
The airport administration believes that this initiative will increase passenger and cargo traffic at Chandigarh Airport, as well as strengthen air connectivity with various cities. Better connectivity will promote regional balanced development and give new impetus to tourism, trade and investment activities. Facilities like per passenger incentives, subsidized parking charges and relaxation in security deposit norms are also part of the plan to strengthen long-term partnerships with airlines.
These airlines have been invited
Airport CEO Ajay Verma said that major airlines like Air India, Indigo, Air India Express, Alliance Air, SpiceJet, Akasa Air and Star Air have been invited to take advantage of this scheme.
Apart from this, invitation has also been sent to proposed new airlines Shankha Air, Alhind Air and Fly Express to start flights on new and unserved routes from Chandigarh Airport.
The airport administration hopes that with this initiative, Chandigarh will be better connected to major destinations in the country and abroad in the coming time and will strengthen the economic development of the region.
