15 people lost their lives in a terrible plane crash in Colombia (Photo- Reuters)
AP, Bagota. A horrific plane crash in the north-eastern region of Colombia on Wednesday claimed the lives of 15 people. The Beechcraft 1900 twin-propeller plane of state-run airline Satena was flying from Cucuta to Ocaña when it crashed in mountainous terrain near the Venezuelan border. There were 13 passengers and 2 crew members on board, and unfortunately no one survived.
Colombia's civil aviation authority confirmed that the plane lost contact with the control tower at about 11:54 pm (local time), just minutes before landing in Ocaña. The debris was found in the search operation with the help of the Air Force, but all the passengers were dead.

The region is mountainous and subject to unpredictable weather and is dominated by the ELN, Colombia's largest guerrilla group. Bad weather and difficult terrain made the search difficult. Satena Airlines and the government have expressed condolences.
The investigation is ongoing to determine whether the cause of the accident was weather, technical fault or any other factor. This incident is causing deep shock in political and social circles in Colombia, especially due to the death of leaders associated with the peace process.
