Digital Desk, New Delhi. A small private jet crashed while attempting an emergency landing in San Mateo Atenco, Mexico, killing seven people. The jet hit the roof of a business building and caught fire, forcing a massive evacuation.

The incident occurred as the plane took off from Acapulco and was headed to Toluca Airport, about 31 miles west of Mexico City. The crash site was in an industrial area about three miles from the airport.

Seven bodies recovered after the crash

Mexico state civil defense coordinator Adrian Hernandez said there were eight passengers and two crew members on board, although only seven bodies had been recovered several hours after the crash.

How did the plane crash?

The plane tried to land on a football field, but instead hit the metal roof of a nearby business, causing a large fire. "About 130 people in the area had to be evacuated because of the fire," Ana Muniz, mayor of San Mateo Atenco, told Milenio television.
