Prime Minister Narendra Modi has thanked the people of Maharashtra for their huge support on the victory of NDA.
Amid celebrations at the BJP office in Mumbai, PM Modi said in a post on Instagram, "Thank you Maharashtra." He said, "The hardworking people of the state have blessed the NDA's agenda of good governance in the interest of the people. The results of various municipal elections show that the NDA's bond with the people of Maharashtra has deepened."
'The public liked our track record'
The Prime Minister said, "Our track record and our vision for development has been appreciated by the people. I am grateful to the people of entire Maharashtra. This vote is to accelerate progress and celebrate the wonderful culture associated with the state."
How were the results of the civic elections?
According to current trends, BJP is leading in 90 seats in Mumbai and Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena is leading in 28 electoral wards. Ajit Pawar-led NCP is ahead in only three wards. Let us tell you that NCP had fought the civic elections separately from the NDA alliance.
At the same time, from the opposition camp, Shiv Sena (UBT) is leading in 57 wards and its ally MNS is leading in 9 wards. Congress, which is contesting the elections in alliance with Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi, is leading in 15 wards and others are leading in eight wards. These figures prove that Shiv Sena (UBT) has lost its hold on Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
Who contested the elections on how many seats?
BJP contested on 137 seats and Shiv Sena on 90 seats, while Ajit Pawar's NCP faction fielded separate candidates on 94 seats. Shiv Sena (UBT) had fielded candidates in 163 wards, MNS in 52, Congress in 143 and VBA (Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi) in 46 wards.
