Hearing on MP Amritpal's petition due to lawyers' strike now on 18th (Photo)
State Bureau, Chandigarh. It is becoming difficult for Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh to participate in the winter session of Parliament.
His parole petition filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court could not be heard even on Wednesday. Due to the lawyers' strike, the court adjourned the hearing of the petition to December 18.
The winter session of Parliament is to end on December 19. In such a situation, only one day's time is left for Amritpal. Chief Justice Sheel Nagu called the lawyers appearing in the case at least four times, but no lawyer appeared.
On this the Chief Justice commented that if the hearing continues to be postponed like this, the petition may also become futile. The bench also took on record that the matter has already been argued in detail by the state government.
Senior advocate Anupam Gupta, on behalf of the Punjab government, strongly opposed the parole petition of Amritpal Singh and presented his arguments for almost two days.
MP Amritpal, who has been detained since April 2023 under the National Security Act (NSA) and is lodged in Assam's Dibrugarh jail, while presenting his side on December 16, had said that due to his continuous detention, the entire work of his parliamentary constituency has come to a standstill.
