RAF deployed after clash between Bodo and tribal communities in Assam (Photo-X)
PTI, Kokrajhar. Clashes broke out between Bodo and tribal communities on Tuesday after one person died in mob violence in Assam's Kokrajhar district. After this, Rapid Action Force (RAF) was deployed and internet services were suspended.
A Home Department official said on Tuesday that a vehicle carrying three Bodo people hit two tribals on Mansingh Road in Karigaon Chowki area under Kokrajhar police station on Monday night. After this, the tribal villagers beat up the three Bodo people and set the vehicle on fire.
One person died in this incident. The incident worsened on Tuesday when people from Bodo and tribal communities blocked the national highway near Karigaon outpost, burnt tires and set some houses on fire.
A government office was also set on fire and the Karigaon police post was attacked. He said that RAF was deployed to maintain law and order and control the situation. The Home Department has suspended internet services in the entire district till further orders in view of the possibility of spreading inflammatory messages and rumors through the use of internet media.
One killed, four injured in mob attack
A man was beaten to death by a mob on suspicion of cattle theft in Assam's Kokrajhar district and four were seriously injured in the attack.
Police said on Tuesday that people involved in a road construction project were returning in their vehicle after inspecting a site in Oudang area on Monday night. When his vehicle reached Gaurinagar-Mashing Road, the villagers tried to stop him suspecting him to be a cattle thief.
In this attempt the vehicle met with an accident and went off the road. The mob attacked the occupants of the vehicle and set the vehicle on fire, causing serious burn injuries. They were taken to hospital, where one person died. He is said to be the son-in-law of project contractor Moranda Basumatari.
