Delhi Police freed 19 children from child labour.

Jagran correspondent, New Delhi. 19 minor children were rescued during a major rescue operation against child labor in Adarsh Nagar area on Tuesday. This action was taken in Jahangirpuri Industrial Area and Azadpur Mandi under the leadership of Sub-District Magistrate (SDM) Adarsh Nagar. The campaign was carried out in joint coordination with the Labor Department, Delhi Police and Prayas Juvenile Aid Center (JAC) Society.

The children rescued from different workplaces include 10 boys and 9 girls. These children were working in factories, industrial units, roadside shops and dhabas. Preliminary investigation revealed that they were being made to work for 12 to 15 hours or more every day and were not even given weekly leave.

During investigation, it was found that many children were being made to do dangerous work like iron work, metal cutting, welding and operating heavy machines. There were no safety arrangements at workplaces, due to which there was a serious risk of accidents. The children told that they used to get wages of only Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 per month.

Most of the children had come to Delhi from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar due to financial constraints and were put to work without age verification. Authorities have initiated legal action by filing an FIR at Mahendra Park police station after finding violations under the Child and Adolescent Labor (Prohibition and Regulation) Act.
