Jagran correspondent, Firozpur. The Income Tax Department today raided the Guru Harsahai residence of former Congress MLA Raminder Singh Awala. This action started suddenly in the morning and is currently continuing. Aula had won the 2019 by-election from Jalalabad assembly constituency on a Congress ticket.
The Income Tax team arrived in 6-7 vehicles and raided many places including Aula's residence. Officials are examining documents, business records and income related information. Heavy police force is deployed in the area and no one is being allowed to go in and out.

Raminder Singh Awla is a businessman and has an agricultural background. He became the first candidate to win Jalalabad seat for Congress after 17 years by winning against Shiromani Akali Dal. His assets are said to be around Rs 235 crore. However, Awla himself is not present at the spot. Suspicion of tax evasion or undisclosed income is believed to be the reason behind the raid.
