Accident due to roof collapse in Lang village of Patiala

Jagran correspondent, Patiala. A major accident took place on Monday in a house being built in Lang village of Patiala district. The roof of the house suddenly collapsed, causing two laborers to die on the spot after being buried under the debris.

Four people including the landlord were injured in the accident, who were immediately admitted to Government Rajindra Hospital for treatment.

According to the information, village resident Harbans Singh told that construction work was going on at the house of Baldev Singh in the village. A room was being plastered. Suddenly the structure became unbalanced and the entire linter fell. The workers working below were buried under the debris.

There was chaos on the spot. People nearby immediately started rescue operations and pulled out the people trapped under the debris, but by then two laborers had died. Efforts are being made to identify the dead.

Landlord Baldev Singh, his son and two other laborers were injured in the accident. The injured were immediately admitted to Government Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, where they are undergoing treatment. Doctors have described the condition of some of the injured as serious.

On receiving information about the incident, a police team reached the spot and took stock of the situation. The police have taken possession of the dead bodies and started the postmortem process. Efforts are being made to contact the families of those who died. Initial investigation reveals that safety standards were ignored during the construction work.

The police and administration are also investigating whether necessary technical standards and safety measures were followed. There is sadness in this tragic accident in the village. Local people have demanded that the administration should conduct an impartial investigation, take strict action against those responsible and give proper compensation to the families of those killed.

ASI Hardeep Singh of Tripdi police station, who is investigating the case, said that the deceased have been identified as Gursevak Singh (46 years), son of Sadhu Singh, resident of village Lang, and Kuldeep Singh (31 years), son of Baldev Singh, resident of village Lang. Both the deceased were from economically weaker section.

Kuldeep Singh was the only son of his parents and the sole breadwinner of the family. He told that this incident happened while lifting the brick corrugated roof. The bodies have been kept in the mortuary of Rajindra Hospital. Further action will be taken in the morning based on the statements of the families of the deceased.
