Jagran correspondent, Gorakhpur. The case of kidnapping and murder of Rajeshwari alias Rakhi Srivastava, resident of Shahpur area, in Nepal is once again in the headlines after seven years. After a long wait, this much-discussed murder case has got a new legal basis with the arrival of a verified copy of the post-mortem report from Pokhara, Nepal.

After receiving the report, not only has the method of murder been officially confirmed, but it has also opened the way for a thorough legal review of the role of the accused.

Rakhi's brother, who is the plaintiff in the case, has obtained the post-mortem report from Nepal. The STF had uncovered the incident in 2018 but in the absence of an official PM report, the investigation and charge sheet was based on circumstantial evidence.

According to STF investigation, in June 2018, Rajeshwari alias Rakhi Srivastava was murdered by being pushed off a mountain in Sarangkot area (Pokhara) of Kaski district of Nepal. After the murder, a conspiracy was hatched to destroy the evidence and an attempt was made to show that Rakhi was alive.

The accused kept his Facebook ID active for about six months, posts and activities continued, so as to mislead the family and the police. On December 21, 2018, the STF arrested a city doctor and two of his employees and handed them over to Shahpur police.

During interrogation it was revealed that the doctor had years of contact with Rakhi. The police presented the three accused in the court, from where they were sent to jail. However, due to non-availability of post mortem report from Nepal, STF had to file the charge sheet on the basis of photo copy, digital evidence and circumstantial facts.

Investigation also revealed that Rakhi was originally from Gaya, Bihar. In the year 2011, she had come to the doctor to get her father treated. During this time he got acquainted with the doctor. In February 2018, Rakhi married a young man resident of Gaya. A few months later, she went to visit Nepal with her husband.

It is alleged that he was kidnapped from there and later murdered. Now, after seven years, the post mortem report from Nepal has made it clear that Rakhi's death was not an accident. On the basis of the report, the strength of the sections in the case, re-evaluation of evidence and role of the accused can be re-reviewed.
