State Bureau, Jagran Dehradun. The Transport Department is preparing a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to park the vehicles parked here and there on the roads in the state at the parking places only. For this, the Transport Headquarters has asked all the divisional transport officers to prepare SOPs in collaboration with the police in their divisions. After receiving SOP from all the divisions, a unified SOP will be made. Which will be implemented in the entire state.

A major reason for the jam on the roads in the state at present is the haphazard parking of vehicles on the roads. It has been observed that the maximum number of vehicles are parked on the roads near the main markets. Parking vehicles at night outside many colonies and societies has also become a trend.

As per rules, all vehicles should be parked in the parking lot. Parking a vehicle at no parking is a punishable offence. Challans are also issued on this. Apart from this, parking has also been constructed in the markets and there is parking in every colony and society also.

Despite this, vehicle owners consider it more convenient to park their vehicles on the roads for their comfort and convenience. This not only causes problems to the common people but there is also a possibility of accidents involving these vehicles at night.

Recently, while hearing the petition filed in this regard, the High Court has instructed the Secretary Transport and all the District Magistrates to ensure that the vehicles are parked in the parking lot. In this sequence, the Transport Department has decided to prepare SOP.

Additional Transport Commissioner SK Singh says that all divisions have been instructed to prepare SOP in collaboration with the police. After this an integrated SOP will be prepared.
