New Delhi. Through ration card, the common man can buy ration free or at low cost. Ration cards are given differently according to the individual. Each color of ration card represents a different category. Today we will know the meaning of these colors related to ration card.

Under the National Food Security Act, the central government provides low cost or free ration to the common man. To avail this benefit, a person must have a ration card. Many types of ration cards are given by the government. These ration cards have different benefits.

How many colors are ration cards?

The Government of India provides four different colors of ration cards. This ration card can also be used as an identity card. The color of the ration also tells about the benefits associated with it.

Pink or Red Ration Card

Pink or red ration card is mostly given to families above the poverty line. Under this ration card, a person can take ration at normal price. Apart from this, subsidy is also available through this ration card. Under this ration card, benefits of Ujjwala and Awas Yojana can be availed.

This ration card is given to the persons coming below the poverty line. Under this, a person can buy wheat, rice, pulses, sugar and kerosene at lower prices than the normal rate. This ration card is given priority in any scheme.

White ration card is given to those who are financially capable. These are those people who do not depend on government schemes for food grains. This card is generally used for address or identity card. At the same time, some government schemes can be availed through the card.

Blue or Orange Ration Card

This ration card is given to those people who are financially weak. But these people do not come in the BPL or poverty line list. These people also get grains like wheat, rice, kerosene etc. at lower prices than normal. In some states, these ration cards also get discount in water and electricity.
