State Bureau, Chandigarh. Haryana Education Department had imposed fine on 1970 private schools for not admitting poor children under RTE and not uploading documents. Most of the schools did not pay the fine. Now the Directorate of Basic Education has warned of cancellation of recognition of the school if payment is not made by 17th February.

School operators are protesting against the fine, accusing the department of not providing information and calling it injustice.

According to the information, in September 1970, the Education Department had imposed a fine ranging from Rs 30 thousand to Rs 70 thousand on private schools for not admitting poor children under the Right to Education Act (RTE) and not uploading the recognition documents on time on the portal. Most of the school operators did not obey the orders. Now the Directorate of Basic Education has given a last warning to pay the fine and has set the deadline till 17th February. After this, recognition of all private schools which do not pay the fine will be cancelled.

On behalf of the Directorate of Elementary Education, all the District Elementary Education Officers have been directed to take action at their level against those schools which had not made public the information about vacant seats reserved for poor children at the time of admissions. If these schools do not deposit the fine amount by February 17, then action to cancel the recognition will be initiated. The schools which have applied to the Directorate for waiver of fines, should be considered cancelled.

At the same time, private school operators protested against the fine and said that the Education Department has also been negligent in this matter, because they did not inform the schools in time through mail, telephone or written information. If a private school inadvertently makes a mistake or is unable to upload any document on time, then the portal of that school is closed. Or a fine is imposed on that school.

This is sheer injustice to private schools. If any document is missing while uploading documents from a school, then written information about the same must be given to the school. So that he can fulfill that deficiency in time. He reiterated his demand from the Education Director to waive the fine.
