Candidates appearing for the post of Home Guard. (Awakening)
Jagran correspondent, Angul. A surprising face of unemployment has emerged in Odisha. Youth gathered in large numbers for recruitment to only 102 vacant posts of Home Guard in Kandhamal district.
The surprising thing is that the minimum qualification for these posts was kept only as eighth pass, but among the more than 4000 candidates who entered the fray, a large number of graduates and post-graduate degree holders are included.
Highly educated youth were seen sweating in the field
During the recruitment process, physical efficiency test was conducted at the Police Reserve Ground, Phulbani, Kandhamal. Despite the harsh cold and challenging conditions, the youth were seen waiting for their turn.
According to the district police administration, a total of 4,142 candidates had applied, most of whom have higher education qualifications.
8th pass qualification, but tough competition
As per departmental standards, the educational qualification for the post of Home Guard should be only eighth class passed. However, the desire for job security and government service has forced M.A., M.Com and B.Tech pass youth also to run.
A candidate present at the recruitment site said, 'There is uncertainty in the private sector, so we do not want to miss this opportunity.'
Recruitment is being done in a transparent manner
Kandhamal Superintendent of Police said that the recruitment process is completely transparent. He said that in view of the huge number of candidates, strict arrangements have been made for security and fairness. Physical measurements and videography of the race are also being conducted so that no questions are raised on the selection process.
