Jaypee Hospital (file photo)
Digital Desk, Bhopal. In the capital's district hospital i.e. JP Hospital, the same medicines which provide relief to the patients are now seen becoming the cause of the disease. Serious questions have been raised on the health system due to two cases of serious defects in medicines distributed from the hospital pharmacy in the first nine days of the year.
On January 3, a patient had lodged a complaint about finding moldy Diclofenac tablets. The matter had not even cooled down when on January 6, when the sealed pack mouthwash given by the hospital was opened, there was a stir when an insect-like shape was found inside it. Both cases have raised serious concerns over patient safety and the quality of medicines.
5-member special team formed for investigation
Taking seriously the continuous complaints, CMHO Dr. Manish Sharma has constituted a five-member special investigation team on Friday. Officials from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) department have also been included in this team. The investigation team is thoroughly examining the entire stock kept in the drug store and pharmacy of the hospital. Officials say that the distribution of the batch of suspicious drugs may be banned until the investigation report comes.

Moisture has become the enemy of medicines.
During investigation, the drug store employees admitted that the moisture present in the walls of the hospital premises and the store is the biggest challenge to the quality of medicines. The staff claims that complaints have been made several times regarding this problem, but till now no concrete improvement has been made. At the same time, the silence of Jaypee Hospital's Civil Surgeon Dr. Sanjay Jain on this sensitive matter is also raising questions.
At present, the sample of mouthwash has been sent for testing. Only after the report will it be clear where the negligence took place and who is responsible.
