Technology Desk, New Delhi. For the first time in history, AI powered smart glasses will be used by Delhi Police to handle Republic Day security arrangements in the national capital. According to officials, these smart glasses are equipped with facial recognition software (FRS) and thermal imaging capabilities, which will allow officers to identify suspects in real time without stopping people in crowded areas. This device has been made by an Indian company. These will be directly linked to the police database which contains records of criminals, declared criminals and other suspects.

According to the report, these glasses will work in conjunction with the phones given to the policemen. When used to scan a person, the system will match the facial data with the records stored in the database. Its green indicator indicates that the person has no criminal record, while a red alert flags a person who has a known history of crime. This will help the authority to take immediate action when needed.

Officials said that this technology can scan faces in a few seconds and will eliminate the need for physical verification and will help in maintaining smooth crowd movement on the Republic Day parade route and surrounding areas. This system is capable of identifying a person even if his appearance has changed over the years by comparing old photos with live images.

In addition to facial recognition, smart glasses also include thermal imaging features that can help detect hidden metal objects or potential weapons. This will act as an additional layer of security, especially in dense crowds where visual checks are not effective.

Additional CP Mahala told PTI, 'The glasses are linked to the mobile phones of the officers and the mobile phones will have the complete database of criminals. If someone appears in the green box, it clearly means that the person has no criminal record. If the box turns red, it means the person has a criminal record. The officers can immediately check all the details and if necessary, the person will be arrested immediately.

Officials confirmed that sub-inspectors and other field officers will use smart glasses during the ceremony. However, he did not disclose the number of devices purchased or the cost involved, only saying that a sufficient number of devices will be deployed for the program.
