One miscreant got injured after being shot by the police while the other one escaped taking advantage of the darkness. Garhmukteshwar Kotwali in-charge Devendra Singh Bisht was checking with his team on the Garh-Meerut road late on Tuesday evening.
Meanwhile, two suspicious youths were seen coming on a bike. When the police signaled them to stop, the miscreants riding the bike opened fire on the police. The sudden firing caught the police by surprise and they also started retaliating. During this time, the police bullet hit the leg of one miscreant, while the other miscreant took advantage of the darkness and escaped into the forest.
According to the police, the injured criminal caught has been identified as Zaid, resident of street number four of Lisadi Gate police station, Meerut. He was wanted in a gangster case from Garhmukteshwar, on which a reward of Rs 20,000 had been declared.
Police have recovered a 315 bore pistol, empty and live cartridges and a bike from him. Information is being sought about his absconding accomplice. The injured criminal has been admitted to the hospital. More than a dozen cases are registered against the arrested criminal in Hapur and Meerut.
