The vehicle of the Forest Department team, which was on a special operation to drive away the elephants from the population, was hit hard by an uncontrolled container.
In this accident, two people died on the spot, while many others were seriously injured. Among the deceased, Mandu resident Shahadat Ansari and one other could not be identified.
Apart from this, the injured include Mantu Mahato, Rajiv Marandi, Ravindra Marandi, Dilip Murmu, Sanjay Karmakar, Shambhu Karmakar and Shibnom Marandi. In this, seriously injured Sanjay Karmakar has been referred to Ranchi.
According to the information, in view of the increasing menace of elephants in the area, the Forest Department had called a specially trained team from Bankura, West Bengal. For the last few days, the team was working to return the elephants safely to the forest in different areas.
On Saturday also, the team had gone on a mission when a speeding container going from Hazaribagh towards Ramgarh went out of control near the valley and went into the other lane and directly collided with the forest department vehicle.
The collision was so severe that the vehicle was blown to pieces. About ten members of the vehicle were involved in the accident. Two people including the driver died on the spot.
The condition of four injured is said to be very serious, who after first aid were referred to Hazaribagh for better treatment. Forester in-charge Shailendra Kumar was also present in the vehicle. Initially he said that he had a minor injury, but later he was also kept under medical observation. As soon as information about the incident was received, Charhi police station and ambulance reached the spot. The police removed the damaged vehicles and restored traffic. After the accident, there was an atmosphere of chaos on the NH for some time. Police have seized the container and started investigation.
