chakka jam in jamshedpur
Jagran correspondent, Jamshedpur. The United Trade Union has announced a one-day nationwide strike on Thursday in protest against the four new labor laws of the Central Government, in which work in all the banks and insurance sectors of Jamshedpur is completely stalled.
Life Insurance Corporation of India and all its units are giving their moral support due to this strike, but the workers of the United Trade Union have blocked the main gate of the main branch located at Bistupur from 10 am on Thursday and no employee or customer is being allowed inside.
Continuous agitation against anti-national policies
General Secretary of Jharkhand CITU, Vishwajeet Dev, says that in the past years, trade unions have been on the path of continuous agitation against the anti-worker, anti-farmer and anti-national policies of the Central Government.
The historic nationwide strike of 25 crore workers on July 9, 2025, against the Labor Code that snatches away the rights of workers and for their demands related to pro-people alternative policy and system, received unprecedented support from the affected public along with the solidarity of the farmers, due to which the Central Government has not been able to implement these laws till now.
One day national strike on 12 February 2026
But despite continuous opposition, the Central Government is adamant on implementing corporate directed policies and brutally exploiting the majority of the people at the cost of appeasing a handful of corporate companies.
Therefore, against the backdrop of deteriorating economy, rising unemployment, rising social tensions, increasing attacks on democratic rights and voting rights, a joint platform of 10 Central Trade Unions, Independent Federations and Associations has announced a one-day national strike on 12 February 2026.
Vishwajit Dev says that the Central Government has made 4 labor codes and their rules in an undemocratic manner, without consulting the trade unions and without convening the Indian Labor Conference (ILC). Whose main objective is to weaken the trade unions and make the labor movement unarmed before the attack of capital.
70 percent factories out of the scope of labor laws
These labor codes are designed to take away the right to strike, exclude about 70 per cent of factories from the ambit of labor laws and leave workers with no rights after long battles against employers.
This is a well-planned conspiracy to change the definition of wages, make it impossible to form unions and impose a party of slavery on workers, so that the loot of corporate houses can increase.
The concept of trade union will end
Kolhan AITUC leader Heera Arkane says that the government has released the draft of the new "Labor Power Policy-2025". Its purpose is to destroy the very concept of trade unions. It describes hard work as a "religion" rather than a right. Now, instead of enforcing the law, the government will become merely an institution that “facilitates” capital.
This draft negates collective bargaining and tripartite dialogue and minimizes the role of state governments. Disregarding constitutional values like liberty, equality and fundamental rights, this policy claims to take inspiration from ancient texts.
Government is not filling vacant posts
Joint trade union leader Om Prakash says that there are 65 lakh vacant government posts in the country which the government is not filling. Despite this, the government is also systematically switching to contract work, substituting temporary, outsourced and trainee workers for work of a permanent nature in government institutions.
At the same time, the government is rapidly privatizing sectors like railways, ports, posts, coal mines, oil, steel, defence, roadways, airports, banks, insurance, telecommunications, nuclear energy, power generation and supply etc. The government is endangering the self-reliant economy of the country by conspiring to close down an institution like HEC Limited.
Due to this, essential commodities, education and treatment are now becoming beyond the reach of the common man. With rising inequalities, a large number of people are being pushed to a standard of living below the poverty line.
In the face of the historic movement of farmers, the government was forced to withdraw three agricultural laws. Despite this, the central government is bent on handing over farming and marketing of agricultural products to big business houses by bringing new laws.
