Jagran correspondent, Batala. A minor dispute turned violent late on Tuesday night in Basant Vihar Colony, Kahnuwan Road, Batala under Gurdaspur, Punjab. A 58-year-old man died after a car driver attacked him with a baseball over a dispute over giving way to an e-rickshaw. After the incident the car driver fled from the spot.
The police have taken the body into custody and kept it in the mortuary of Civil Hospital for postmortem and after getting the postmortem done today, it was handed over to the family. The deceased has been identified as Raj Kumar (58), son of Purna Chand, resident of Basant Vihar Colony, Batala. According to the information, on Tuesday evening, Raj Kumar's son Gorakh Nath Mana was returning home driving an e-rickshaw.
When he was passing through the colony street, a car was parked near the house. Meanwhile, there was a minor collision between the e-rickshaw and the car, due to which an altercation started between the car driver and Gorakh Nath.

Tried to save son, accused attacked him
Gorakh Nath told that after hearing the sound of the fight, his father Raj Kumar reached the spot and started intervening. Meanwhile, the car driver got angry and attacked Raj Kumar on the head with a baseball. Raj Kumar was seriously injured in the attack and collapsed on the spot. After committing the crime, the accused car driver fled from there.
Family members and local people immediately took the injured Raj Kumar to Batala Civil Hospital for treatment, where doctors declared him dead. On receiving information about the incident, Civil Lines police station reached the spot and took stock of the situation.

Case registered on family's statements
Civil Lines police station SHO Nirmal Singh said that the police have taken the body of the deceased in their custody and got the postmortem done. The statements of the family members of the deceased are being recorded and on the basis of them a case will be registered. Police say that the accused car driver has been identified and a search has been started. The footage of CCTV cameras installed in the area is also being scrutinized so that the accused can be arrested soon.
