Displaced tribals of Manipur sought answers from ITLF. (social media)
Digital Desk, New Delhi. Representatives of displaced tribals from Imphal have alleged that prolonged silence and lack of transparency has ensured that the internally displaced people have been betrayed by the Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum.
Members of tribal communities who left Imphal after the May 2023 Meitei-Kuki ethnic violence broke out have asked a civil society organization of the Kuki tribes to provide details of the money and documents taken from them to fight a case in court for compensation.
Churachandpur-based Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum had charged each IDP from Imphal two years ago Rs 3,000 for each plot of land, a group representing internally displaced people said in a statement.
The representative of the IDPs said that this money was collected from people who were already vulnerable and displaced as well as dependent on institutional integrity. It is now a matter of grave concern that even after more than two years, the IDPs from whom money and documents were collected have no information about the results and financial accounts.
The Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum has not yet responded on this matter. Calls made to ITLF members active in 2023-24 went unanswered. Representatives of IDPs say we want answers. He said that this attitude has raised questions on the accountability and moral responsibility of the organization.
