State Bureau, Lucknow. There was a heated debate between the government and the opposition on the issue of education in the Legislative Council on Friday. Saying that the level of education in the state is falling, SP members stopped the proceedings and demanded discussion. Said that the government is intent on destroying education.

Minister of State for Basic Education (Independent Charge) Sandeep Singh termed the opposition's claims wrong and said that the level of education has improved. Meanwhile, SP members walked out shouting slogans.

This matter was raised under Rule 105 on behalf of Leader of Opposition Lal Bihari Yadav and other SP members. SP member Ashutosh Sinha said that the level of education is falling due to the wrong policies of the present government. Teachers are being made to do non-academic work.

SP member Dr. Man Singh Yadav said that 36 thousand schools have been closed in the state. 1.2 lakh posts of primary teachers and 4112 posts of secondary teachers are lying vacant. During this time, objection was raised from the ruling party on any mention regarding higher education.

Leader of Opposition said that work is being done to close madrassas. Agencies like ATS and EOW are investigating madrassas. He also demanded grant to junior high school.

In response to this, the minister said that the government is working sensitively for education. More and more facilities are being provided to schools and teachers. The number of children in schools has not reduced, every year the 'Go to School' campaign is run. In classes three and six, Uttar Pradesh has performed better than other states of the country. Under Nipun Bharat Mission, more than 48 thousand schools have become Nipun schools.

The minister said that the opposition's claim of school closure is wrong, not even a single school has been closed. As soon as he said this, the SP members started shouting slogans. Then walked out of the house. Later the Minister said that schools with student strength of less than 50 within a radius of one kilometer have been merged with other schools and kindergartens are being operated in their place.
