Jagran correspondent, Dehradun. This time, Holi in the capital Doon will be fragrant not only with colors but also with the new chapter of economic independence of rural women. What is most talked about these days in the city markets are the natural, herbal and safe colors prepared by village women. The women of Dehradun are not only making colours, but are also seen challenging the big companies of the market with their skills.

This time the women of Sahaspur and Raipur development blocks have prepared a total of two and a half quintals of herbal colours. From Tesu flower to beetroot, rose, turmeric and sandalwood, everything is taken from nature, without any chemical adulteration. Due to the carved packaging of these colours, attractive fragrance and being completely safe, their demand has increased in the local market.

In many shops the stock is being sold out as soon as it arrives. From village to city, women are in full swing for Holi. This time the Holi market of Dehradun is coming alive not only with glitter but also with the fragrance of the village, the color of the soil and the hard work of the women.

The true form of ‘Vocal for Local’

These women of the village are not only making colours, but are also building a bright future for their livelihood. This is the most grassroots form of Prime Minister Modi's 'Vocal for Local', where consumers are happy and manufacturers are also looking strong. The National Rural Livelihood Mission, which is being spearheaded by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, made a major contribution in providing financial support, training and markets to these women. The result is that women are getting a net profit of Rs 100 to 120 per kg of colour.

Mother power became a symbol of change

Meena of Sahaspur development block says that earlier the financial condition of the house was weak, but today these colors have given a new direction to the income of her family. Meena says that natural colors are not only safe but are also our identity. Seeing the increasing sales in the market makes us feel proud that our hard work is now paying off. District Mission Manager Sonam Gupta says that the women of Raipur development block have done record level work in production this time.
