Jagran correspondent, Dhanbad. Now there is going to be a heavy burden of electricity on the pockets of the people of Koyalanchal. Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL) is going to give a big shock of inflation to the consumers of the state. The corporation has submitted a proposal for a huge increase in the existing electricity rates by about 60 percent to the Jharkhand State Electricity Regulatory Commission (JSERC).

Before getting the final approval on this proposal, a public hearing will be organized on 27th February at the Community Hall in Koyla Nagar, Dhanbad to know the public opinion. In which the city's enlightened citizens, traders and consumer organizations will present their arguments before the officials of JBVNL. The proposed changes of the corporation have increased the concern of the common man. If we look at the data of JBVNL, the idea is to increase the electricity rate for urban domestic consumers directly from Rs 6.85 to Rs 10.30 per unit.

At the same time, in rural areas where availability of electricity is already a challenge, there is a proposal to increase the rates from Rs 6.70 to Rs 10.20. There is preparation for a huge increase not only in the unit rate but also in the fixed charges which will directly affect the monthly bill. Let us tell you that this proposal of the corporation has not only spared the domestic but also the commercial and industrial categories. Rates for businessmen can go up to Rs 11 per unit. The fixed charges and unit rates proposed for industrial consumers have given entrepreneurs sleepless nights.
