Jagran Bureau, New Delhi. The Supreme Court on Monday expressed displeasure over the disturbance to the Lord's peace by allowing influential people to perform special puja at the famous Banke Bihari temple in Vrindavan. Chief Justice Surya Kant, who is hearing the case, commented that where they allow the deity to rest, special pujas are performed to the influential people at that time.

The court made this comment when the Thakur Banke Bihari Ji Maharaj Temple Management Committee was arguing against the change in the darshan timings. However, on the petition of Thakur Banke Bihari Ji Maharaj Temple Management Committee, the court has issued a notice to the high-powered management committee constituted by the court and the Uttar Pradesh government and sought their response.

Hearing will be held again in January

The petition has challenged some decisions of the High Powered Committee, which include extending the timings of temple darshan and ban on Dehri Puja. The court will hear the matter again in the first week of January. On Monday, the matter was posted for hearing before the bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant, Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul M Pancholi.

Senior advocate Shyam Diwan, appearing for the petitioner, objected to the change in the timing of darshan and said that the timing of darshan and worship is part of a long tradition. This is a sensitive issue. The change in temple timings is similar to the change in temple customs. Like when will the gods wake up in the morning and when will they sleep at night.

When Diwan was giving these arguments, Chief Justice Surya Kant asked what they do after the temple closes at 12 noon. Where are the gods allowed to rest? To harass them, those who are influential and can pay more money are allowed special puja.

punctuality should be strictly observed

However, Diwan denied this and said that this was not right. The court can ensure that this does not happen. This is a very important time of God's rest. This is an important issue. Time must be followed. The Chief Justice said that this is the time when they indulge in all these practices. Those who can pay are invited for a special puja.

Shyam Diwan, arguing on behalf of the petitioner temple servants, denied this and said that the puja time is sacred and should be strictly followed. He said that the temple has been following the timing according to the seasons for a long time.

What concerns did the court express?

He opposed the change in timings by the High Powered Committee and stressed on maintaining the traditional timetable while ensuring the safety of the people. He also opposed the closure of Dehri Puja. Talked about Guru-disciple tradition. However, he said that special darshan should not be allowed as the court is raising concerns. After hearing the arguments, the bench issued notice on the petition.
