PTI, New Delhi. The historic Red Fort of Delhi is currently hosting an important international conference on the conservation of UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage. To make the occasion even more special, 'Shah Jahan' made a grand return to the Red Fort, welcoming delegates from all over the world.
However, here we are not talking about the great Mughal emperor Shahjahan, but about a magnificent old aircraft, an attractive model of the Boeing 747 jumbo jet, which was named 'Shahjahan'. This aircraft was once part of Air India's famous 'Emperor' fleet.
This huge aircraft model now stands proudly in front of a British-era barrack inside the Red Fort. Recently, a new gallery has been opened in the same barrack, in which priceless artefacts, paintings, posters and other rare items selected from the famous 'Maharaja Collection' of Air India are displayed.
The 'Shahjahan' aircraft and the Maharaja's collection have become a memorable symbol of the beautiful presentation of Indian culture and heritage at this global UNESCO event, connecting the royal grandeur of the past with the modern skies.
