The process of registering cases against both the parties is underway

Digital Desk, New Delhi. BJP workers on Sunday demonstrated outside the opposition party's office in Pune in protest against Congress leader Harsh Vardhan Sapkal's remarks equating Tipu Sultan with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Congress accused BJP leaders of pelting stones at its workers during the protests. Joint Police Commissioner Ranjan Kumar Sharma said that three Congress workers, two BJP workers, two policemen and two journalists were slightly injured in this dispute.

He said that the process of registering cases against both the parties is going on. Pune city Congress president Arvind Shinde said the party has lodged a written complaint with the police against the BJP workers. A case should be registered against Mayor Manjusha Nagpure, BJP City President Dheeraj Ghate, Dushyant Mohal and other workers.

There was a controversy on Saturday over the installation of Tipu Sultan's portrait in the office of Deputy Mayor of Malegaon Municipal Corporation Shaan-e-Hind Nihal Ahmed. Shiv Sena councilors and Hindu organizations had expressed strong objection to this. The State Congress President had praised Tipu Sultan by comparing him with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Earlier, Maharashtra unit leader of Congress Sachin Sawant accused BJP of adopting double standards and running the agenda of polarization. In a statement, the Congress leader cited several instances and claimed that BJP leaders had earlier praised Tipu Sultan in public places and official forums.

In 2012, the party had passed a resolution in the Akola Municipal Corporation, in which former mayor and BJP's Akola election in-charge Vijay Aggarwal had talked about naming the Standing Committee Hall 'Shaheed-e-Watan Sher-e-Mysore Tipu Sultan'.
